Second, watch this video

We talked about Purpose Mapping during the webinar. This is a really important part of Boards in Gear because it centers all of your other conversations. Watch this 2 minute video, and then use the worksheet on page 7 of the Boards in Gear toolkit to complete your Purpose Map.

Here’s a sample Purpose Map for the food bank mentioned in the video.

Third, take Two Steps Forward

We invite you to take two steps forward from where you are now. Here are two topics to explore and bring back to your organization.

  1. Explore Network Leadership. The four Network Leadership principles resonate with many board members interested in achieving more with the resources you have.
  2. Understand Board Advocacy. Board members hold a lot of power when it comes to advocating for their mission. They do so as caring community members, not as paid staff.

Fourth, share what you’ve learned

Find the entire Boards in Gear curriculum, videos, kit, and key documents here. Invite fellow board members to watch a video. Play the Board Game with at your next board meeting!
